Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Kalide LLC ("Kalide", "we", "us") collects when you visit kalidemusic.com, buy a license, or use our software, such as Collage, and what we do with it. We collect as little as we can, we don't sell your information, and our software contains no advertising, analytics or tracking.
1. What our software sends
Your audio, projects, presets and settings stay on your computer. Our software never uploads them. It connects to the internet for only two things:
License activation and checks
When you activate a license, and from time to time afterwards to confirm it is still valid, the software sends our licensing service:
- your license key;
- the product name and version;
- an anonymous machine code, a one-way scrambled value created from your computer's device ID. It lets us tell your computers apart without revealing the ID itself;
- a computer label made from your computer's name and your user-account name (for example "Studio Mac (Alex Smith)"), so you can recognise your activated computers if you need to free one up.
Our licensing service runs on Moonbase and passes these details to our store provider, Moonbase, which keeps the record of your license and its activations. After activating, the software keeps working offline for up to 60 days between checks.
Update checks
About once a day, the software downloads a small public file from GitHub that lists the latest version. This request contains no license key or personal information. When you choose to install an update, the installer is downloaded from GitHub. As with any web request, GitHub can see your IP address.
2. When you buy a license
Purchases are handled by Moonbase, which acts as the merchant of record. Moonbase collects your name, email address, billing details and payment information to process the order, calculate tax, prevent fraud and send your license key. Kalide does not receive your full card details. We can see your name, email address, country, order history and license activations, and we use them to provide your license and support.
3. When you visit our website or contact us
- Website. Our website is hosted by Netlify, which, like any web host, records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.
- Newsletter. If you sign up, we keep your email address, using Netlify, to send you news about Kalide. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Contact and support. If you email us or use the contact form, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and help you.
4. How we use information
We use the information above only to:
- deliver, activate and verify licenses, and prevent license misuse;
- tell you about updates to software you own;
- answer support requests;
- send the newsletter, if you asked for it;
- keep our website and services secure and working;
- meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example in the EU or UK), we rely on performing our contract with you (licensing and support), our legitimate interests (security and fraud prevention), your consent (newsletter), and our legal obligations (tax and accounting records).
5. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Kalide, and only for the purposes above:
- Moonbase, for payments and licensing;
- Netlify, for website hosting and the licensing service;
- GitHub, for update downloads;
- Netlify, for the newsletter;
- Google, for support email.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries. Where required, they use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
6. How long we keep it
We keep license and order records for as long as your license is active and as long as tax and accounting rules require afterwards. We keep newsletter addresses until you unsubscribe, and support messages for as long as they are useful for helping you. When you deactivate a computer, its activation record is released.
7. Your choices and rights
- You can deactivate a computer from within the software at any time.
- You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict how we use it. To make a request, email inquiry@kalide.xyz. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
- If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Security
License tokens are digitally signed and checked on your computer. Connections to our licensing service and to GitHub are encrypted (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
9. Children
Our products and website are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. If the changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
